Help me out, axanthic pieds (lightning pieds)
So I'm looking on genetic wizard, and if I have this down correct, you breed an axanthic to a pied and get all normal double hets. Then breed the double hets together (or to an outside double het) to get... 1/8 chance at axanthic pieds? And if you end up with a bunch of normals, would you list them as normal 33% het pied 33% het ax? Or 25%? Out of the 16 possibilities, there are 12 normal-looking possibilities, 4/12 would be het axanthic, 4/12 would be het pied. Or do you count the overall total (16) and it would be 4/16 het pied 4/16 het axanthic? I hope I'm making sense. Here's the genetics wizard link:

TIA!

If you bred two double hets which would be 100% het for axanthic and pied then you would have a 1/16 chance of hitting an axanthic pied. Everything else in the clutch would be 66% het pied, axanthic or both. So any pieds in the clutch would be 66% het axanthic and same with any axanthics would be 66% het pied. All normals would be considered 66% double het axanthic pied which means they may carry one or the other gene or both genes, or none of the genes. Hope that's not too confusing but they are possible hets there no guarantee it's 100% het.

Your normal looking babies would be listed at 50% het pied, 50% het ax.
I don't breed het to het because I hate having only possible hets... I wanna know for sure if it's het or not.

50% het is when you breed a 100% het to a non het. Since your breeding 100% het to 100% het all babies are 66% het.

Why wouldn't you breed the babies to the parents though? You'd be getting much better odds that way.
As for the percentages, when you see an animal that looks 'normal' you know for a fact that it is not a pied, axanthic, axanthic pied, axanthic het pied, or pied het axanthic. So all that remains is double het axathic/pied, het axanthic, het pied, and a normal. So you would basically call anything that looks normal 66% het pied/axanthic.

I don't believe you can get Axanthic Pieds by breeding a double het to a pied/axanthic (my female will be axanthic in this case).

What would you achieve by doing this, you would definitely not produced and Lighting Pied.
The long route is Pied to Axanthic and pairing the DH Axanthic Pied to each others which would yield 1 in 16 chance per egg to produce a Lighting Pied, with the rest of the animals being 66% DH, Pied 66% Het Axanthic, and Axantchic 66% Het Pied.
The smart way to do it (for better odds) is to produce some DH Females, raise them up and once they are about a year to a year and a half, buy a Pied Het Axantchic.

Okay I'm still trying to figure out how we know they're 66% DH pied axanthic (sorry to necro this thread). From looking at the genetic wizard ( http://www.worldofballpythons.com/wi...female=30h,83h ) I only see a 37.5% chance of it being het pied OR het axanthic, if we add up the percentages for het axanthic/pied and double het. I don't know how you get more than 25% chance for double het. Can someone explain the math to me?
