what kind of spider am i?
my husband spotted this spinning a web above my neighbor's door. i have no idea what kind of spider it is--i've never seen one like it before. its back was really shiny and golden in person--really cool looking.

Found this website that may help. About a 1/4 of the way down the page there's a spider that looks pretty close called a Golden Silk Spider and lives in Florida and the southeastern States. There's also a link there for this particular spider.

If this isn't it maybe also posting your pic there will get you some answers. Pretty spider (and I don't even like spiders LOL).

Good find Joanna, it sure does look like the Golden Silk Spider. Nice pic Mle. I do not have a lot of love for spiders but as long as they don't wander into the bedroom, I usually just make them leave the house. Those who violate the not-in-the-bedroom rule get squished.

yep i think you are right joanna. thanks! i'm really not a fan of spiders myself either (tarantulas are ok for some reason but other spiders are not!) but this one was just so cool looking i couldn't help but admire it.

Acutally, that's 2 spiders. Female in foreground, male in back. Looks like a golden silk spider to me...I am by no means an expert, and you can't id from a picture If it's not, it's probably closely related.
