Few Questions...
This is Yzmas' hours old shed, and it's missing about 3" of the tail - came off but separately. Hubby is 5 feet 8". We measured the skin....5 feet.
1. Is shed skin stretched or is she really 5 feet??? She doesn't seem that big when we hold her.
2. What is the average female size??? (She gets a medium rat once a week but has been on a 2 month fast.)
3. Also, does her hut look too small? (During her shed she balled up really tight and it seemed like she still had some space, but she's spread out now and "wearing" it a bit.

Re: Few Questions...
Sheds tend to be larger than the snake
Females can get up to 5 foot on average, I have also seen 6 foot females but those are pretty uncommon. I also feed my females a medium rat a week
The hide looks ok to me, bps like tight spaces to feel secure

I use that hide for my adult male, I found that eventually he was too tall for it when slithering, and he has to compress himself to get in, which sometimes meant he risked losing a few scales. So eventually I just cut out a taller entry hole and then sanded it all down so there were no sharp edges.

Re: Few Questions...
Myself I would get the next size up for your hide. My snake will go back in the corner while it is sleeping and will have his head just inside when he is awake. I personally thing the snug idea is a little over emphasized a hide means hide not a hat. My snakes have never had a problem with their hides and I have always provided a hide where they have a little room. That is why I like the black off set door hides from Reptile Basics and Pangea ( Amazon )

Re: Few Questions...
Ball pythons are better measured by weight because it's hard to get them to stretch out.
An adult female is usually 2,000-3,000 grams. Sometimes more.
The shed is stretchy and not a good indication of length.
I think the hide size is fine as long as she is using it. They often like to wear them as hats.
You can upgrade to a larger size if you want but not required.

Thanks everyone.
If I did go bigger, I'd have to order the lack rectangular one with the offset door, in extra large, as the large is the same size as her current rock hide. (This issue he largest rock hide.) I will wait a while before getting a new one.
