    Follicle development questions

I have three females building right now. One of them I can feel 6 bouncy ball size follicles and two they are more pea size. How long is it usually before they lay when they are the size of a bouncy ball. Last night I looked at her and her belly is turning pink so I think she may shed in the next week. Think this could be a pre lay shed? Are they big enough for that?

    Re: Follicle development questions

Follicular development takes on avera he 4 to 8 months, however your count down to egg laying only starts when an ovulation occur.

Once the follicles are golf both size the ovulation is imminent.

If your snake has not ovulated this is not a pre lay shed, pre-lay occurs 2 weeks after ovy.

    Ovulation

I thought she was ovulating last night. Swollen as could be last 1/3 of her body but no sunken tail. Also, she is still eating like a champ so I am assuming some time to wait still .

    Also question

Does fertilization occur post or pre ovulation? I am assuming post, but I just want to know for sure.

    Fertilization takes place during ovulation

How long is the window of ovulation for the actual fertilization to take place. Now that I'm only introducing my male only once a month I fear if he is not in there locking at the right time, couldn't ovulation/fertilization be missed?

They can retain sperm for months. I've had a BP breed once and ovulate four months later and produce a perfect clutch.

Wow that's crazy! Great info, now I can relax knowing that locking monthly should be more than enough

    Re: Follicle development questions

So how often do most breeders put their males in with females. Just want to know if I am putting them together enough or not enough. I have two males I am putting with 4 females. I try to get a male in with each female once a week. I have witnessed many locks.
