Rat with ear infection
..at least I think that's what she has. I just bought a female white rat last week, and a couple days after I noticed she was holding her head tilted. Is there anything I can do for it? Should I just put her in the freezer, or will it not affect her productiveness as a breeder?

Re: Rat with ear infection
Well, bottom line, she needs to see a vet. If it is an ear infection, it wont bother her reproductiveness, but would you want to be left with an ear infection thats untreated just so you could breed? I think not.
If you are not going to take her to a vet for treatment, I personally, would p/k her and freeze her so she does not suffer. And then purchase another breeder for your purposes.

Re: Rat with ear infection
I have had the same happen to a few of the rodents I have purchased. I really don't know what causes it, ear infection, blown ear drum, genetic trait, or whatever but it never has affected my snakes when they eat. As long as the rat goes through its normal schedule I would keep it alive and let it breed. On the other hand if they're sores present I would just put the rodent out of its misery and dispose of it without ever feeding it to my snake....just a suggestion

I had one like that and just used it as a feeder. I like to use only the healthiest, fattest females for mothers, because you get much better litters. I would prekill and freeze or feed fresh-killed

For heaven's sake guys, I'm not going to toss a live rat in the freezer.. lol I'll gas her first.
Ok.. I guess I'll feed her off then and buy another female.
