    I live feed small rat.

Do you think she got hurt with something inside the tank or could it be a feeding wound?

It certainly could be from feeding live. That's is one of the dangers with it. As the snakes get bigger so does their prey and rats can be nasty. Not that the mark on its chin looks nasty.

Re: Is this scale rot or a wound ?

Yeah but right now that's the only option I have. I'm allowed to keep frozen in my fridge. I'm stopping at small rats. I'm not going any bigger than that, I will probably feed her two pray as she gets older.

My snake likes to go to the corner and try to pick up the screen and escape so that could also be a possibility.

    It could be.

Sometimes feeding live is the only option. You just have to watch it and know that your snake may get a scratch or bite from time to time. They usually heal up with no issue.

Is that aluminum tape inside the cage on the screen?

It looks like you cut the screen and then taped a light fixture in the hole. Is that right?

If so, I have to advise you to get a new screen lid and never place tape in the tank again, especially that kind of tape. If that stuff was to get on your snake it will cause some real damage. Google phrases like "tape on snake" and take a look at some of the horrible pics that come up.

Another issue is if that fixture is being used and has a hot CHE or bulb in it the snake could burn itself on it. Snake have also been known to climb into the fixture and wrap around the bulb. You can Google that too. It this is done you will most certainly be dealing with a burned snake.

There is no reason to cut the screen. The heat will pass through just fine.

If Im correct in what I think I see I would suggest taking out anything that can allow the snake to reach the top of the cage. Keep the snake on the ground until the top is replaced.

Re: Is this scale rot or a wound ?

Before I used to have a aluminum foil outside taped with double-sided tape. I had to put the tube of the fogger on a cup and tape the cup on top of the screen so I wouldn't have to make a hole on the screen. That started corroding the screen and it made a hole where the cup sat. So I had to cover the hole with aluminum foil and double-sided tape cover with more aluminum foil until it was safe. I'm actually just getting a new plastic enclosure soon. The lights are outside.

    I see.

The cup ruining the screen is why I don't like suggesting people to place a damp rag on their screen lid. It will end up rusting and ruining the screen.

Re: Is this scale rot or a wound ?

Yeah really sucks. This is the main reason why I'm switching to plastic enclosures. According to websites and people they hold humidity very well unlike glass enclosures.

Do you think my snake is going to be fine though? Would I have to treat the wound with something or just let it heal by it self?

PVC enclosures do hold humidity much better than a tank.

Yes, I think your snake will be just fine. I wouldn't even call that a wound. Snakes are tough and after a shed Im sure it will be back to good. I don't think you have anything to worry about with it and I don't think any treatment should be needed.
