I think it's because some snakes like an enclosed hide whereas those log things are open ended .....

Those hides expose too much of a ball python to keep them feeling secure. The ideal hide for one is something that's closed off all around with only one way in and one way out. And one that is tight fitting for their body. I.e. A reptile basics hide, exoterra cave hide, etc. or if you want to stick w the log, you could seal off one end of it to help w security.

But it's up to you as the owner to decide what you want. If everything is working and you like the way it looks, then you don't have to change anything.

I think there are a few up here and there , should be a few shots in my other snake obsession thread .

Give me a few weeks and I'll try and take a few updated ones . I tend to concentrate photographing the on the actual snakes
I'm just doing lots of prep work on the snake room as I'm updating many of the set ups as a few were outgrowing their enclosures so I've got a few bigger vivs that need setting up and somehow getting them to fit in the limited space in the reptile room ..

Thanks! Yea hers is pushed to the back and covered,i recently moved a plant near the entrance too so she would feel i little more hidden but even my rock hide has a small opening in the back side of it,ive blocked it off with plants though
