    Re: Constant Or Variable

My temps are 24x7 - no nightly drops

Another constant though is a thermal gradient and a hide on both the warm and cool side

You have one snake ... constant. Night time drop is only asking for problems.

    Re: Constant Or Variable

I keep temperatures constant 24/7. The natural tempurature drop in the ambient temperature in the whole house when the lights go out does provide a 1-2 deg drop in the ambient temperature in the enclosure(drops from 84 to 82), but the thermostat is set to keep a temp of 94 on the warm side all the time. That drop only occurs because I have no control over it....if I had the control, it would not drop.

    Re: Constant Or Variable

hey daniel, you can control the ambient temps. if you have your snakes in a room or area that you can heat and cool. i keep my room around 81-82 even if the temps drop in the house with a seperate room heater. i actually have the ac vent opened slightly to bring in cool air, so the heat doesn't build up too much in the summer and the heater will come on sometimes.

    Re: Constant Or Variable

ya vaughn...I have thought of doing that before....but I figured a 1-2 degree drop from my constant temp settings is not worth the trouble of setting that up. My temps stay at 84/94 during the day, but once I turn the lights off in the room the temp goes to 82/92. Should I really worry about that much a temp drop, those are still pretty good temps?

    Re: Constant Or Variable

i don't think 1-2 deg is a big deal as long as it doesn't get too cold. keeping the room/area really stable helps alot with cage temps and humidity. plus if you plan on breeding being able to control temps and cycle properly will help alot.

    Re: Constant Or Variable

Here is a question for yall. If the constant temp is the best, How in the world can I achieve this if I am having to use a heat lamp as part of my sorce for heat. Should I go with all IR and get rid of that regular bulb. I realize I shouldn't leave the regular light on all day and night, so whats a feller to do? If all IR is the way, what wattage bulb should I use. I have a 55 gal tank, 48"long, 12.5"wide around 19" or so deep. I am now using a 60W regular bulb during the day and a 50W IR bulb at night. These are also used in conjunction with ha regular heating pad under the tank.

    Help please.
    Ray

    Re: Constant Or Variable

thermostats are the way to get and keep constant temps 24/7.
