Ok. I know snakes hiss. It's what they do.

But, do they sigh? Like how we or our pet dogs do? I was holding Yzma and she was totally relaxed. She moved her head lazily and there was a short sound like someone breathing through a straw. Her mouth was closed. Same thi g happened when my hubby held her. She was relaxed both times and not agitated.

So, do they sigh like we do, or make small hisses for no apparent reason?

Hmmm. Interesting. She didn't act like she was stressed, but perhaps she was? Thanks.

I always interpreted that sound as a hiss, a sound they make when they're startled or stressed. They don't have to be in striking position or anything to hiss.

I usually interpret those sounds as general discontent. As in, "I'm not totally thrilled with what's going on right now, but it's not bothering my enough to do anything about it." There's more to it than that though. It's about the whole package - body language and all. Sometimes it could be nothing more than just a stronger than normal exhale that doesn't mean anything at all.

Wheatley will look around on occasion and startle himself. He doesn't hiss really. He'll just turn and look at something and then hold his breath. Then after he analyzes it or stares at it for a bit, he releases the air slowly and then goes back to sniffing around (with his tongue). Most of the time he will be really relaxed and soft-bodied.

Though I have seen him yawn in a relaxing sort of way. But I really think that it's sort of stretching before relaxing.

Regardless, I think that it's highly possible that she took a deeper breath and let it out as she relaxed more, because she was content and was sleepy?
