    Natural disaster preparation for snakes?

I'm in Socal, and we just got a warning a few hours ago of a magnitude 7 earthquake POSSIBLY happening in the next week some time. (As high as 1% chance or as low as 0.03% apparently, so really the chances are very very slim)

What are some preparations I would need to make or stuff I should buy, assuming the earthquake has a high chance of happening, assuming the electricity goes out for a long period? Where do you put your ball pythons and how do you set them up?

I'm especially wondering about my green tree python, but I might ask this in the green tree python community. But if anyone knows, please let me know too.

What kind of enclosure do you have? I have an ARS rack that weighs about 600 pounds and is solid as a tank. An earthquake couldn't wreck that thing even if the ceiling fell on it LOL. If you have a rack system I'd secure it to the wall and have some kind of latches on the tubs so they can't slide out. I would also buy a generator so you can run the heat on them if needed.

It depends on temperatures outside and how many snakes you need to deal with while the power is out. If your area is fairly cool and you have a lot of snakes I would look into the feasibility of getting everything into one room and heat that room to a temperature that's ok for all of your species.

Water is a must-have, for you and the snakes. I would keep several containers filled and rotate through it monthly.

If you have lots of frozen food (for the snakes and you) then a generator is a must-have so you don't lose the contents.

I would also suggest a non-electric way to cook. A propane grill works nicely.

I keep pillow cases and a big rubber maid tub by cages in case I need to move 'em out quickly. I also keep a supply of heat packs.
Filling up water jugs prior to expected extreme events is a good idea.

I would suggest buying a set of shipping materials from shipyourreptiles- enough for your entire collection. Keep it all packed in what it shipped to you in, but near your collection. If worst case scenario happens, you have the materials to keep everyone safely contained for about 48 hours. Have extra heat packs handy.

I also keep pillowcases and a rubbermaid handy for evacuations. I think I'll add heat packs to that.

We had a fire creep too close for comfort last week and I was glad to have snakes/cat/dog ready to take off at a moment's notice.

these are great idea's i've been needing an emergency system for my reptiles. Does anyone label their rack " Live Reptiles" in case your not home and something happens or "Live Harmless Reptiles". Im in CA too so i worry about the next big earthquake especially since we have been due for one for a while now.

Given its current track, if I were on the east coast between Florida and New Jersey I'd be laying in supplies.
