Heating Issues?
Hello,
So, I've set up my glass tank for my near future ball python, and I'm trying to get it to stay warm enough! The thermostat was set to 92* but when I use my temp gun it was only showing low 80s, so I bumped the thermostat up to 94*, and the hot spot is only 84/86*. Any ideas? Should I keep setting it for higher until it reads the right temp, or should I get a CHE or cover the tank with something?
Thanks a lot!
Reptimom.

Under the mat between the glass and the mat, in the middle of the heating parts like in the main tutorial on here.

Ok if the probe is fairly fat and the mat is small, that can let enough air under the mat that it doesn't do a very effective job heating the glass. I like to put the probe over to one side of the mat. It will probably be difficult but see if you can extract the probe a bit so that more of the heat mat is in direct contact with the glass.

Hope you are taking your temperature readings UNDER the substrate.

Re: Heating Issues?
If your not getting the temp you want on top of substrate while staying in the safe zone under just thin out the substrate a little on the hot side.
