    Found a mite...

I think it was a mite. A tiny brown dot crawling around on the roof of my snake's hide. I checked him over really well and he seemed clean and isn't exhibiting any symptoms. Is this the beginning of a problem? Should I strip everything down and clean?

Yep time to strip it down and clean everything? Soakin in there waterbowl is something they'll do when they have mites!! Catching it early will make it easier to eliminate. I know Provent a mite works great. There's a tutorial on this site on how to use nix treatment. I've never used the nix method but have heard it works well.

Wage war against those tiny little .....things. Don't let them lull you into a false sense of security!

oh.... But if your snakes are very young, be very careful with your dosing.

According to this post -- http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ighlight=mites -- they might not be reptile mites. It wasn't black and there aren't any mites on my snake. So hopefully a good tank cleaning will take care of it.

I do not. Just the one. It was a little brown mite. Nothing on my snake. I cleaned out his tank. Im hoping it was just from the moss or wood.

What kind of a hide was it? Maybe quarantine him to an easy to clean, plastic one for now while you get it sorted out.
