I have come to the conclusion that I just have a stubborn bp and he will only eat live. My dilemma is that the only pet store is 45 min away and the reptile expo only goes every 3 weeks + the $5 to get into it. SO I was thinking I would go to the reptile expo and pick up some rats then simply keep them. My bp can eat a small rat fine (he is 5 months old). My problem is that they will grow too fast to the point my bp won't be able to eat them. I was thinking of getting 6 rats then ever 6 weeks go to the expo to get more. ANy suggestions or opinions would be great thanks.

Your Ball Python is only 5 months old, so instead of quitting, just try harder.

It may take a year or 2, but your snake will 100% switch to frozen. How often are you attempting to feed f/t, and how are you offering it?

Been trying for 3 months. I wait a week after feeding (usually live or recently got him to eat a pre killed rat) then I try. Then I'll wait another week and try again and if he doesn't eat I will buy him a rat. Currently he is 2 weeks havnt eat and the reptile expo is this week so I will buy him a rat this week if he doesn't eat the f/t rat

I would suggest waiting at least a month or 2 between live feedings; 2 weeks is a blip...your snake can go easily a few months without distress.

How are you preparing the f/r rodent?

Waiting a month or two without feeding at all? I have been thawing them for 2 hours in warm/hot water. Then I let them sit out in my room which is about 80 degrees to get them to room temp. THen I warm them up with a hair drying. I promise that they are completely thawed.

This is his third week without feeding (tried f/t this last Friday) so if you do mean they can go a couple months then I can hold off feeding him.

I would start using tough love. And give it much longer to change its mind about frozen.

I converted my BP at 13 yrs and one of my Boas at 10 yrs previously on live.

All of the previous owners of all of my snakes have said that they wouldn't take F/T.

I went one month after first refusal before offering again. That's all it took, along with proper food prep, which you are doing.

I even went a month with my yearling Jungle Carpet.

You gotta be patient, they won't starve themselves.

Try f/t every 2 weeks for 2 months (4 attempts in total). No go, feed a live. Then try repeat.

THANKYOU everyone. I will not feed him this week and will try next week to feed him f/t. HE HAS EATEN f/t before though but then wouldn't eat it the next week. So should I just go until he eats it?
