    Target Tub Holes

Hey everyone. Setting up a rack here, using target sterilite tubs with the purple locking lids.

However, while I had all the snakes settled in their bins, my boyfriend asked if they can breathe, or we can cut holes in it somehow.
I didn't think about that before... Do these tubs need holes in them, and if so, how do I go about cutting holes?

Before anyone asks, they aren't in the tubs at the moment, I took them out and put them back in the old glass aquariums until I can figure this out.

    Thanks

You can either drill holes or melt them with a soldering iron.
    They do need some ventilation.

yes, they definitely need holes for air, air circulation, etc. i use a soldering iron to make holes; u can also use a drill or whatever else can poke nice hole.

make some holes, test temps and humidity. add holes as needed until u think temps/humidity is good to go.

    here's a stickie thread on tub set-up u can use as a guide - http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...e-Basics-*DUW*

If you use a drill I would suggest drilling from the inside TOWARDS the outside, because using a drill will create little sharp tabs that you need to cut or sand off. It's easier when those are on the outside, plus if you miss one/are lazy like me, you don't have to worry about your snake catching on one.

    Just a tip!

If I were in your shoes (and I have been), I'd go the soldering iron route. When I tried making holes with a drill it either 1) cracked the tub, or 2) made a rough edge that required smoothing out afterwards. The soldering iron made a nice clean hole in a fraction of the time.

If you don't already have one, you can probably find a soldering iron in the $10 range at a local hardware store that will do the trick. Just make sure to do your hole punching in a very well ventilated area. I did mine outside and the fumes were still pretty noticeable.

If you use a piece of wood as a backer they drill fine.

Depends on the bit! I did that too before and had to sit there and rip off the little sharp parts or sand it down. The last batch I drilled I used a bit that was kinda sharpened edges (i'm sure that must be it's technical name) and it cut nice clean holes ! I can share a pic tomorrow if anyone is interested.
