    When to change food

Hey everyone, I have an approximately 9 month old BP and it eats 2 hoppers every week, I got her for Christmas from the wife, Today I did a tank cleaning and decided to weigh her as I didn't know her weight, she weighs 1.34 pounds.
I am new to snake keeping, so instead of feeding 2 hoppers a week what would be the next thing to feed her ?
Thanks to everyone that replies and I must say this site kick's %ss so helpful and full of knowledge.

    1.34 pounds = 608 grams

At that size, she should be able to take a small rat (60-90 grams) once per week without a problem.

I'm glad you're enjoying your stay!

    Re: When to change food

Are they mice or rats? I converted the lbs to grams and she is about 607g. If she is feeding on rat hoppers I would go with one weaned rat a week. Good luck

That's what hatchlings right out of the egg eat and quickly move up from there. It's well past time for an upgrade!

A 9 month old eating hopper mice is underfeeding it. My gal was eating hopper mice at like 3 months old. At her weight, she can eat weaned rats or small rats, depending how the person you get them from sizes them. At 9 months my girl was eating small rats. Now she is eating large smalls to medium rats once every 2 weeks except atm she is on a hunger strike and hasn't eaten for about 2 months yet she left me a big turd right in the front of the cage a couple days ago. Definitely up the size and my advice is try and switch to rats asap as it will make life cheaper and easier for you in the long run.

Thanks for the info, now I feel bad for underfeeding her but that's what the pet store told us they were feeding her.
I will change her to small rats ASAP.
    Once again thank you.

Its my opinion that some petstores purposely underfeed to control the size, since they (mostly) use much smaller than recommended tanks. Not your fault at all. If you have any more questions, ask away!
