    UTH Heat

    Hey all,
My unregulated UTH is only heating the top of .5 inch aspen up to 85*. With a thermostat set to 108 it is even worse. Maybe the UTH is messed up? It is a zoo med small.
    Thanks,
    HenryTheSnake

What kind of caging are you using? Glass tank or tub?

How is the uth set up? On the inside of the cage or on the outside of the cage?

What kind of thermostat are you using?

Sorry for all the questions but this will help us get a better understanding for why things aren't heating up as well as they should

Sounds like its working. 5" of aspen is a fair amount of insulation. Turn it down and clear some of that aspen out of the way. Your snake will move it to get closer to the heat anyhow

I am using a glass 20 gallon tank. The UTH is stuck to the underside of the tank.

You are measuring in the WRONG spot.
What is the temperature of the surface of the floor? The surface your snake can touch?

Right, but 85 deg through 5" of aspen is still likely 108 at the glass. Follow the diagram POTP just posted (if you haven't already) and cut the depth of aspen to about 1". At least over the UTH.

    I didn't say 5'' I said .5''. .5'' = 1/2''

Oh! I see. You want me to measure the temp of the glass. I'll do that ASAP.

    My fault, overlooked the decimal.
