Glass tank solid cover

As almost all of you probably know, people with glass tanks have always had humidity problems, and covering a side with foil or a towel just ain't cutting it. Does anyone know of any pre-made solution made for 20 gallon glass terrariums (Zoo med)? Maybe a plexiglass cover with air holes that you can buy somewhere online? If not, do you know of any home made solutions that are easy to make?

Plexiglass is easy to work with. Just cut, or have a piece cut if you're unfamiliar with the process. Maybe change your substrate too. I'm using an Exo-Terra with Eco Earth, and a piece of plexiglas covering 2/3 of the screen top. My temps and humidity are solid.

Also, I live in WA State so my house is quite dry from running central heat.

Those pics were 10 min after briefly opening the front doors too. The humidity will rise another 2-3%

We made our own tops out of plexiglass. They are secured using mirror fasteners.

The screen is secured, but the plexiglass is cut to the exact width of the screen and just lays on top. You could seal it in place on three sides, but leaving loose will allow you to lift, shift, or whatever to fine tune things.

If you're using a CHE, or heat lamp in a fixture similar to what you see in my pic, I'd have the plexiglass cut to about 2 inches from its edge. If you're using strictly UTH, then I'd cover the whole top, and drill a hole every day or so until you find the balance.

I second the plexiglass idea. We used it on all three of our exo terra enclosures. Doing that, using a large water bowl directly under the heat lamp and using aspen bedding keeps humidity between 60 and 70% when it is 30-40% ambient here in Az.

Lowe's sells the plexiglass and cuts it for you. I think the sheet cost me 26 dollars and they cut it for free.

Also, how much of a 20 gallon Reptihabitat (Zoo med) tank's lid is it safe to cover. I of course want my ball python to have plenty of air going around, and good circulation.

Sorry humidity is usually 60%ish. Had the lid off for pruning. Theres a hole back left with a timed circulation fan. My home made fog monster runs in the front right and its open otherwise for airflow. 2 3x3in holes. Theres a coarse screen mesh top screwed into the inside top. The light cutout has slight rounded belly type cutouts for air flow. A few scrap 2by's, scrap laminate floor pieces, a chunk of leftover plexi from another project, silicone it, walla! I made it to sit over the edge of the glass and rest on the plastic on top of the tank. Heavy enough he cant get out. Breathes well. Lol i put a piece of round wood stock from side to side in the lid. He loves it. Basks/roams and plays on it regularly. He is an active guy after all.

But a few minutes and some old junk:



Gained about 12in heigth on a 40g breeder. Plants got too big honestly. But my boy loves every inch of it.
