    Ball python can't start shed

    Hello all!

My young ball python is currently going through his first shed with me. I got him around 1 month ago, and he is around 2 month old.
My humidity is around 55% and heat is perfect. He has many rough choices to choose from in his terrarium, and two hides. The problem is that he has been in the final stage of shedding (his eyes cleared up and he started shedding from his head), for around 3 days, and the only skin that he has been able to peel off is the skin right in front of his nose. His eye caps and everything else is still covered in old skin (I think), because he doesn't have any shed loose in his cage. The skin on his body though is not even loose, the only loose skin is that in front of his nose.
I have tried bathing him once for 10 minutes (Which stressed him out - So I will try to limit his bath).
I have also tried increasing humidity (But it is very hard in the California winter).
Finally, I let him run through a damp mini-towel.
    All to no avail!
What should I do, and what does this mean (that he has only been able to peel back his nose skin)?

    Thanks,
    HenryTheSnake

Humidity should be around 65-75 durring shed. So I would try some moss you can get at a reptile store or just switch to a cocoa husk bedding to better keep humidity up. Get a humidifier if need be.

I understand that, and will have the humidity that high before the next shed. I am buying a humidifier for the room the snake's terrarium is in, because I don't want to put one inside of his terrarium, but what can I do now
    to fix the shedding problem?
    Thanks,

Dont put the humidifier in the room like open. You dont want your whole room to be that high. There are ways to set it up so that there is a tube from the humidifier going into the terrarium. You can find set up videos on YouTube.

Get a spray bottle and mist the tank. That's the easiest and quickest way to do a temporary humidity increase.

    Here are some options.

    1. Mist the tank with a spray bottle.
    2. Get some sphagnum(spelling?) Moss, dampen it, and stuff if into a hide.
    3. Place a damp towel over the top of the tank lid.
    4. Cover a portion of the tank lid with foil if you hadn't done so already.
    5. Move water bowl to be above UTH if you have one.
    6. Bigger water bowl. I use a ceramic doggie bowl.
    7. Combination of any above to get the humidity to where you would like.

    Hope these help!

Don't do the damp towel over the tank lid. I don't know why people like wet towels all over their stuff. I live in the mojave desert so I feel your pain. Instead of the damp towel put aluminum foil over 2/3 of your lid. Make sure thus is over the warm side and your water bowl is under the foil. Or add a second water bowl to the warm side under the foil. It will bump your humidity way more than a ridiculous towel you have to keep dampening while it sits around as a breeding ground for germs.

Re: Ball python can't start shed

so, as you know, the humidity needs to go up. lots of people use a spray bottle. depending how low the humidity is where you live another option would be the sock trick. Take a long clean sock, soak the bottom 50% of the sock with warm water, fold the sock back up into its self (like you do with a pair of socks you are putting away), place that over the heat source. I like this option because it slowly increases the humidity rather that spiking it. Its also nice for the low humidity areas because you wont have to spray 10 times a day.

depending how bad the humidity is where you live it may be worth switching to a different substrate that holds moisture better. Good luck

Is this all I need to do, raise the humidity? Or do I need to bath him or intervene some other way?
