almost whole collection into shed at the same time..

i Just recently adopted a group of 12 ball pythons. From different breeders. I dont know whether it is the sudden attention they have recieved or the different husbandry but, they have almost all gone pink bellied and blue at the same time...seems funny thats all...Thanks

Anyone else witness this phenomenon with thier collection?

When I worked at Petsmart there was one time all the snakes went blue at the same time. My bp at home was also shedding at the same time.

Lol I only have two snakes and I thought it was weird when they both just shed a week ago at the same time. Same exact day.

There was a big discussion about this happening on the garter snake forum I'm on. People would consistently have snakes of different ages/sizes shedding at the same time. I've noticed with my collection, that (with the exception of one male who is twice the expected size for a male and twice the expected lifespan for garters... so he's kind of my outlier) my smaller males will go into shed right around the same time as my near-adult female, or the older large male. But I've never seen the female or the larger male go into shed right after one of the smaller males.
A lot of people on the garter forums had noticed similar things happening in their collections. It was enough to make me wonder if it was related to hormonal triggers or something.

Of course I imagine garters would be more susceptible to hormonal signals than BPs just because they tend to hang out in large groups in the wild.

Re: almost whole collection into shed at the same time..

I think that you might be onto something with the hormonal signals. Now I have no idea if shed is precipitated by a hormonal shift or not, but by BPs that are in close proximity to each other tend to go into shed around the same time. The only x factor are the new arrivals that are in separate rooms. They are all random.
