Heating Concerns?
Hey guys, as some may know myself and my boyfriend just got our Belle a few days ago. The tank we got from her old owners is a 40 gallon and came with a lamp and heating pad that was way too small. Today we went and got a 12 by 8 UTH and the bulb in the lamp is 100W. The top to the enclosure however is grated and we're having a hard time keeping the heat gradient right. The cool side is 78 and the warm side is around 82F. We've tried plastic wrap on the lid and are now using tin foil as we heard that can help with keeping in the heat and humidity especially with using a lamp. Does anyone have any suggestions for ways we can turn up the heat in her tank? We have Cyprus Mulch as a substrate, two hides for her, a large water dish and a large branch in the center of her enclosure. The other black thing on the side of her enclosure is the old heating pad. It's not turned on, just there for safe keeping. A picture is below: http://oi61.tinypic.com/2cxc1ms.jpg

Re: Heating Concerns?
Are you regulating the uth with a thermostat. ..if not unplug it until it is... the uth will provide the warm spot for them to lay on at around 90 regulated by a thermostat it will keep the temp there your cool side temps are fine...were are you taking the measurement from and what are you using to measure them?

We are using a thermostat on the UTH and the sensor for humidity is inside the tank in the middle. It's a " National Geographic Multizone Vivarium Heater". Not sure if it's a bad UTH or we just got a faulty one.

You want to regulate your UTH, it is for a hot spot and does not do much of anything for ambient temperatures.

So guys... we sorted out our problem. In the midst of our stress we didn't realize we had the humidity sensor on the UTH and the heat sensor in the tank near the top aha.
