Question Hatchling Royal still not shed after 5 weeks

    Hi all,
I was asking for some advice really.
Ive just hatched our 1st clutch of Royal Python eggs & produced some lovely babies, 3 albinos & 1 normal. They are all doing fine & had there 1st shed & eaten 3 hoppers each, apart from 1 albino. It was the 2nd one out the egg & still hasn't shed yet, it's been just over 5 weeks now & getting worried. The skin looks very shiny compared to the others, like it's stuck or something. Should I just wait it out & keep it on damp paper, or do something more drastic? I don't want it to get any RI infection if it's on the damp paper too long & worried about it not eaten yet.
If anyone can give advice it would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

It happens occasionally. The shiny appearance is down to the thinness of the first shed skin.

Has the snakelet shown any interest in feeding at all?

    Hi Derek,
    Thanks for replying.
I have try the little one with food but just seems very scared, so haven't pushed it to far yet.
Is it still wise to keep it on the damp paper for now?

I had this happen to one hatchling on my first clutch this season. Though it didn't shed it did take to food and when it had grown enough to warrant shedding, it then did. That was after it had eaten about 5 times. Remember that growth is typically what prompts them to shed so if it is not eating or growing it may be a while before it will shed. Try and get it eating and then just be patient. Keep its humidity bumped up a little just the same. Good luck

    Thanks rlditmars,
I will try again to get it feeding & from time to time give it a little spray, I'm just hoping the little one sorts him or her self out eventually 😊
