i've read quite a bit about corns and was actually thinkign about getting one as my first snake, but i got a bp instead.
a lot of people recommended getting a corn as a first snake, but from what i've read it seems that corns can be kind of fiesty.
is this true? or does this just happen with younger corns and with handling they settle down?
thanks

My corn Ruby is pretty fiesty she will rattle her tail and look like shes going to bite(gets in the striking position), she has nailed me twice already.Somtimes she hisses
But she has calmed down alot lately, when i got her she was like the snake from hell, whipping her tail around and striking at me. Not to much fun.

I have had three corn snakes. The only time one ever struck at me was when it was not handled at all for quite awhile. It just took about one minute of gentle handling for it to calm down. Overall a wonderful first snake, with consistent handling they stay tame very easily.

Yes, yes she sure is, thats what i shouldve named her. A cute name like Ruby doesnt fit a snake like her.

My corn musked on me the first time I held her (3 months ago). Ever since then she's been an angel.

My corn is a little skittish when I first take her out of her tank, but she calms right down after being on my hand for a few seconds.
Corns are much more active than BPs, so when you handle them they usually pick a direction and go for it. They don't usually just lie there on your hand. Mine likes to explore and force her head in between my fingers. I love her inquisitiveness.
She has never attempted to bite me.

Generally they are docile and have a great tempermant - but as with anything there are always exceptions. Young corns (as with many young snakes) are a bit more fiesty, but usually calm with regular handling and age.
