where should I place the digital thermometer probes?

    Hi all,

Ive been using the stick on style temperature gauges since aquiring my beautiful baby pastel a few weeks ago. Ive been concerned the temperature is too cool in her viv (using heatmat that is placed under the glass floor of the viv) I have since bought a digital thermometer with two probes, one for cool end and one for warm end.
Where should these probes ideally be placed though??? On top of the substrate (bark) or under it so therfore on the glass floor???
The last reading i checked was (on top of the substrate) 22c in the cool end by the window and 28c in the warm end (on top of the substrate) . This is also where she spends most of her time.

    Many thanks in advance

P.s after 3 weeks she seems very happy, has a lovely calm nature when handled and is eating well each week

You want to know that temperature under the substrate. This would be the hottest area your snake could burrow to.

Re: where should I place the digital thermometer probes?

Uth is on a thermostat. When I measured the temp under the substrate so therefore on the glass floor of the viv the temp readings were 32c hot end and 26 cool end so these would appear to be much better. The air temperature in the viv doesnt feel overly warm though so wondered if this could cause problems. The stick on gauge I use to measure the ambient air temp reads about 78f

    Many thanks for your advice
