    What is this???

Tonight was feeding night and when my little rescue was sitting up and swallowing his dinner I noticed some discoloration and red spots. At first I thought it was just from his dinner ( it was kind of a messy dinner ), but closer inspection makes me think it's something different. Husbandry is good, humidity at 55-60%, hot spot steady at 90 and regularly checked with a gun. No mites. He had trouble shedding about a week ago and I very very gently helped him. Do you think it could be from helping him shed or some kind of problem? Any input on what it might be would be greatly appreciated.

And yes that is a blue glove. He's still in quarantine and I take that seriously.

Edit - He was on cypress. The moment I noticed the redness I cleaned and sanitized his tub and put him on paper towels.

messy dinner? was it f/t? did the mice pop? (it's happened to me too.)

the first pix looks like a burn. but the other pix shows blood splatter and smeared blood on the skin. if there are no visible wounds on your snake, my best guess is it's messy dinner getting on your snake's best Sunday church clothes.

That looks like an infection to me. Doesn't look too serious yet, so I guess it's your call if you'd rather go ahead and talk to a vet or try doing diluted betadine soaks.
If you do that, it might be good to put him in a tub with just plain water for a minute or two first so he can get a drink, and supervise to make sure he doesn't decide to drink the betadine/water solution.

EDIT: The bits on the side of his neck and under his chin look like blood. However, all the parts on the belly look like mild infection (or potentially a mild burn) to me.

Actually... Now my eyes are playing tricks on me. Use a wet paper towel to wipe him down and see what areas are still red.

Most of it came off, what wouldn't come off.. well that's because he wouldn't cooperate. It's really hard to wipe off a snake with wet paper towel when they want NO part of what you're doing.

Thanks for the quick replies. It's hard not to go into full on panic mode when I see something different with one of my babies. LOL

F/T. It didn't pop, but it had a massive nose bleed going on. I've never seen a rat pup bleed so much.

Instead of wiping it's much easier to let the snake crawl across the wet paper towel.
