    Just a quick mite question.

This is something i've always wondered, if you start off with a healthy snake, free of mites, can the snake just one day get mites? If so, how? where would they come from?

Other reptiles... Whether it's from you going into a hero store and coming in contact. herp shows are a mandatory strip down at the door and shower like crazy before I even get close to my snake room.... I'm sure they could be picked up from outside were other wild reptiles are found...that is why quarantine is so important.

This. I keep a can of OFF in the car when I go to a herp show. If I'm not bringing home new critters I spray myself with it in the parking lot before the drive home and then I shower immediately when I get home.

NOTE: Don't do this if you purchased a new animal, as DEET, reptiles, and bugs don't play nicely together.

Good info! So you pretty much have to bring them in? They won't just "appear out of no where"?

Nope. Mites can't manifest out of nowhere. Has to be transferred via a vector.

Adter expos I strip on the front porch, clothes stay in a sealed bag and go directly to the hot wash. I head to the shower immediately as well.
