Nippy baby
Hi guys, new to the forum well kinda I use to post in here like 10 years ago but anyway. I just got a Vanilla Mojave Male born in May. Don't think he has ever been handled and is quite nippy. I don't mind getting bit as I use to keep a Biak Green Tree Python that had huge teeth and bite me anytime I got near him. Is there any trick to getting a nippy baby to calm down? Just handle as much as possible?

Honestly, I wouldn't handle it much if it is still so young. Feed them well, usually every 4-5 days for babies that young, and they usually grow out of it when they hit 300 to 400 grams.
Do you have photos? I love vanilla combos!

if u just got him, let him settle into his new habitat for a few days or a week. try handling him when he's outside of his hide, usually after sundown. give him a little rub on his body before you pick him up. keep his head pointed away from you. have fun, post pix of your baby BP too.
RIP Mamba

What Marissa said, a lot of them grow out of it. Just make sure he has hides for comfort and give him some time to settle in.

Whether it has been handled or not does not make a difference, hatchlings are just defensive, to them YOU are a predator. The more they are being handled does not mean they will mellow down faster for you (not with this species), leaving them alone is the best course of action.
It's a matter of patience, feed him well, limit the stress and once the animal will put on weight it will grow out of it.

Ok that makes since. I have another hatchling pastel that is super sweet. But I will leave them in their tubs from now on!
