    Orochimaru Finally Arrived!

After a sleepless night and almost having an anxiety attack over the seven hour delivery delay, my new baby is finally home. He was pretty stressed. I was planning on weighing him real quick before I put him in the enclosure to settle. I stroked him a little bit, but when I went to pick him up he struck me. He was curled up in a small round container, so he probably thought I was going for his head. Plus I was anxious and this is my first snake. I've held snakes before, but I was all excited and jittery. Sure it was my fault. So I just dipped him into the tank. He explored for a little bit, drank water twice, and now he has settled into his hidey hole. He seems like a quirky little guy. First thing he did was knock over the digital thermometer, he fell off the stump. And if you're looking at him he'll turn his head in the opposite direction and stare at the back wall like he's ignoring you lol.

I thought I saw a piece of shed flaking off on his side, but I can't see it anymore or any other signs of shedding. Though he did rub along the log some like he was scratching his self. I've been having problems keeping the humidity up. I'm considering putting ecoearth on the opposite side of the tank where he's hiding, but I don't want to stress him anymore.

    Nice looking snake.

If you're just looking to boost humidity, damp sphagnum moss will be a lot easier and less messy than eco-earth, especially if you're just using it in part of the enclosure. Holds humidity better too IMO.

Thank you He's an Axanthic Champagne. I put a thin layer of eco-earth on top of the carpet, misted it lightly, and put the log back over top that area. I'll pick up some moss after work tomorrow.

The box seemed a nice temperature when I opened it. I would say he was room temperature, maybe a little less if not. I was planning on leaving him alone today and tomorrow, and see if he'll eat Thursday.

also folks recommend taping paper to the back and sides of the tank. it makes the space seem more enclosed and makes snakes feel more secure. i used a vinyl cling with a jungle design to stick to the back of my tank and then put some vinyl stickers here and there on the side.

also i like the colors of your faux plants. (mine are just green. )

Yup I taped thick paper to three sides of the tank. He came out and ventured over to the cool side hide where I put the eco-earth. I got some better pictures of him while he was traveling that I'll post.

They're actually attached to that hide, which is sold as a fish tank decoration at Wal-mart X). The fish stuff just seems to look cooler imo.

I would wait a full week befor offering any food. No handling at all until it is 3 meals is a good practice to have especially with hatchlings unless cage cleanings of coarse

Okie dokie. I'll keep handling to a minimum. After he eats the first time for me should I feed him once or twice a week? I've been reading different opinions on that for hatchlings.
