humidity too high?

My humidity in my rack is about 85-88% humidity is this OK or is it too high? I read that ideal humidity is 60-75%. If it's too high how can I lower it? Thanks

Its to high.

What are you using for substrate? If may be because you added some new moist substrate and it just needs a few days to dry out.

If that's not it and it is remaining high you may need to add some holes to the tubs. This can be done with a drill or soldering iron.

Also increasing the air flow in the room can drop it. This can be done by adding a fan on the other side of the room. Do not point it directly at it.

Just paper towels. I just put my fan on the highest setting and have it oscillating, that should bring it down a bit. just out of curiosity isn't the humidity that high in Africa anyways. I read some people keep it that high with no problems after I posted this thread.

Is there condensation building up on the sides? As long as the tub isn't wet and you have good air circulation you should be fine living down south the humidity gets high here in the summer and there's nothing you can do about it. No matter how many fans you use it's just going to be humid. I've never had any negative effects from the high humidity. Just make sure to clean really well so bacteria doesn't build up. Oh and you can also downsize the water bowl a bit to help and keep it on the cool side. Hope this is helpful

Perfect I also have about 40 plus holes soldered into my tubs and my humidity can still get into the high 80's sometimes. I agree that in Africa the humidity is going to be high at some points in the year and I'm sure the bps there survive just fine.

I live in Houston Texas and we have just a little humidity. Inside my home however the humidity is nowhere close to that outside. My rack has a mix of eco-earth and cypress without any holes in the tube and my humidity does not get to 80%. My PVC cages can but with the fan moving the air they stay within the range I want.

However, you are right as I forgot that in their natural habitat they also live in small cages in a small room. Silly me.

Many people that have a designated snake room, like I do, close the A/C vent to the room to keep it warmer. This can create stagnant air which can be an issue when dealing with high humidity. A fan keeps the air in the room moving much like the wind would do in nature. This keeps the air in good condition but will also drop the humidity some by circulating the air in the cages.
