    RI recovery time

    I've done a lot of research on RIs in balls, but I haven't actually found anything about the recovery time. I've had ball pythons for a couple years now, and this is the first time one of them has gotten sick. Spartacus (sick snake) was wheezing with every breath, and had some mucous and bubbles in his mouth, but not actually dripping or anything. I tried the vicks+eucalyptus oil treatment for 10 mins, and he seemed a lot better afterwards. The next day though, he is wheezing again, not as often as before the treatment. I live in the middle of no where, and there are no exotic veterinarians around, otherwise i would have taken him there. I just want to know if part of the recovery is coughing up all the mucous and gunk in him, kinda like how people do when they are getting over a cold.

    I moved your thread into the correct forum.

    Snakes don't "cough" and they don't usually get over a "cold" the same way a person would. It sounds like something serious is going on and it's not something that will get better by itself. You may have to travel some distance, or maybe you can find a herp vet willing to do a phone consultation. A phone consult is unlikely to be very helpful though, as you'd probably need someone to actually show you how to administer the medication. Where DO you live? You might be surprised to learn there are qualified vets within a reasonable distance...they're not all in big cities or anything.

    What are the temperatures in the enclosure? What kind of enclosure is it? Humidity levels? Does it share a home with another snake?

    How did you "treat" with vicks/eucalyptus?

    One Of mine has an RI also. He has the bubbles around his mouth and is really sluggish, not really moving a lot. I'm taking him into the vet tomorrow. I'll tell you whatever they tell me.

    Something one shouldn't do to a snake.

    @Op

    You need to have a culture done to see what is causing the RI, treatment cannot be done properly without knowing the cause.

    Your description is serious enough to need an experienced herp vet.

    I'd advise you to see someone asap! And make sure it is properly diagnosed. I just lost my Banana Mojave about 30 minutes ago and I can tell you its not something that's fun to watch
