Water question?

A long time ago when I was buying my first snake, I was told to add some type of additive to my snakes water to remove chlorine. They said it would kill my snake. Ive been using it for a few years but do I really need to use it? Will water out of my sink work just fine?

I have never used any additive and primarily have used tap water.. When I lived with my parents I used bottled water they bought.. however none of my snakes have ever died from tap water or water w/o treatment...

Hundreds of thousands of snakes all across the country get water straight out of the tap from all different municipalities. If the standard chlorine included in clean drinking water were dangerous to snakes, they would be dying off in droves. Basically, if it's safe for you to drink, it's perfectly safe for your snake. No additives needed.

Edit for one more thought: And if one is still paranoid about chlorine in drinking water, you still don't need additives to remove it. Just fill a pitcher or bucket with water and let it sit out for a day. The chlorine evaporates out of the water.

I'm sure the employee was just repeating what they were told in some training class or from their manager. Corporate BS to sell more products, but the employee probably doesn't know any better than the people he/she advises every day.

I treat all my water because I have frogs that need it treated so it's just easier for me to fill up a couple jugs and treat them than take every individual water dish into the bathroom and fill it up whenever I need to. If you're nervous about chlorine and chloramines (which don't evaporate out and are what causes a lot of problems with frogs) just get a big thing of SeaChem Prime; it'll last like a year.

I use regular tap water for my snake, but I normally fill up my mister the night before using it, and for water bowls I just use the water from my mister, it's really up to you whether you want to treat it or not, but it's really not needed, hope this helps!
