trouble getting my BP to eat

My female ball will be three in June, she normally goes off her fed anywhere between Sept to Feb. But this go around she keeps refusing.I haven't tried live simply because she's been on frozen since I've had her as a hatchling. Any other suggestions or should I just try live?

You can try live, best case scenario she takes, worst case you have a live mouse you need to get rid of.

I tried scenting with used gerbil bedding and it worked a treat! Fed straight away and has been ever since x

I would skip a feed day, then next feed day defrost a food item and then put it in a containor/on a few paper towels on top or near the enclosure and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then while it's sitting for 30 minutes defrost another one and offer that. You may also try placing the f/t on her side after she has smelled and become awar of it. My pastel will sometimes not strike but if the food touches her side she slowly coils it. Same with if I move her while she has smelled food.

I'm still stuck with a live gerbil from last year. My normal feed routine is I take them out of their tanks while the rats defrosting. After they are defrosted I place the snakes in large plastic storage bin in my closet so it nice and dark. Followed by nice bloody warm rat. My redtail and dumerili have no issues what's so ever. Just my ball. After they have fed and the rat is nice and settled in their guts they get placed back in their enclosures.

Thumbs up Re: trouble getting my BP to eat

Three years old, she probably has breeding on her mind. It is a instinctual desire at her age and the time of year. In any case, check your husbandry numbers and make sure the bp isn't ill.

Likely just breeding, think of it as the ball python food bill discount. I would just reduce the amount you offer, and keep track of her weight and wait for her to scare the pants off you when she suddenly strikes when you think she won't.

She seems healthy enough, I'm no expert. Her mouth is still bright pink so her respiratory is clear, no lumps or calcium deposit, and she is still maintaining a healthy weight and shedding on schedule
