Best digital Humidity/Temperate gauge for the money!!!!!!!

For all you new and even seasoned snake keepers, you may find it frustrating to get an accurate reading of your enclosures temperature and humidity. Below I am going to share an item that took me months to find through all these other so called options.

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004167QI8/...keywords=xikar

The Xikar temperature/humidity gauge!!! It is accurate to 1% humidty/temperature. Buy 3 of these and place them in the tank with double sided tape. 1 in the basking hot spot, 1 in the middle of the tank, and 1 in the cool side. These are used by cigar hobbyists for their cigars, but they just so happen to be amazing for snake enclosures.

To calibrate it, buy a Boveda humidity pack. You place the Xikar gauge inside this pack and leave it for 4 days. You will get an exact reading of 74 to 75% humidty.

I would use a hot glue gun rather than have tape inside the enclosure.

    But good find.

Would be interested to hear others experience with them, but on the outside they appear to be a way better buy than accurite I see recommended alot.

Paying for a hygrometer calibration is very stupid - you can do it for free.

Google this: calibrating a hygrometer salt test

I agree to an extent. The upside of the Accurite is the probe, whereas the one recommended here doesn't appear to have that this dual functionality.

If you're looking for something accurate, you can also try Hygroset 2 or 3. That's what I use in my humidor.

I also calibrated three of these acurite thermometer/hygrometers and they were all right on point. I found them at Lowes (hardware store) for 10 bucks.

If you are looking for accuracy, buy a Herpstat and use it as a hydrometer I personally just use the Acurites. Seems the temps on both of mine are about 1F off from what my temp gun reads so to me that's close enough especially for a $12 unit. If it goes south, throw it out and buy another. Simple.

annoying and inaccurate way to do it. I would gladly spend a few dollars and get 75% exact.

I use velcro 2 sided tape thats rated for 50 pounds. Doesn't fall and can be taken off and on for cleaning and even if it does fall off the snake isnt harmed because nothing sticky is exposed, just 2 sides of velcro.

I dont like working with probes, but to each their own. Both Accurite and the unit I suggested are name brand and trusted by many. You dont see a lot of talk about Xikar because it is only used in the cigar world. Xikar is a top brand to cigar hobbyists.
