Had tons of pet snakes as a kid. Spent most my free time in my youth catching turtles, snakes and whatever else I could find. In my twenties my wife bought me a baby red tail boa that I had many years and was probably 6ft when I sold him. So I'm not new to reptiles by any means.
Fast forward I'm 53 now. About six months ago or so my youngest daughter was tasked with caring for her fiancé's young corn snake. Following directions of pet shop she was having issues with him. Bad sheds being the worst. So I kind of took over helping her out getting his husbandry correct. Better heat lamp and thermometer to get his temps right as the pet store set up was too cold.Changed substrate to cypris, bigger water dish and better hides. Bumped humidity for her via misting and the very next day he had a perfect one piece shed. He always had ate f/t like a camp but bumped him to fuzzy's once a week verses a pinky ever other week like pet store told her and he's doing awesome now.
So for the last month Ive been setting up my BP tank. I have read back the last 500 pages on this forum and adjusting my set up. BIG thing learned off the bat was my zoomed UTH without thermostat was 158F. Glad I researched here, ordered a vivariam 100 and now running 91-94 on the glass inside tank. Heat lamp working good with about 82 ambient temps and with water bowl full and moss keeping humidity at 60-75%. Had everything running about perfect for two weeks now.
So tomorrow heading to Kalamazoo reptile expo to pick up my first ball python!!!! And I'm STOKED!!!!
