    Safe to Refreeze?

Me again lol.. Okay so this has recently become an issue for me. Both my male and female have decided that they want to be finicky eaters. One week they eat the next nope not interested. Of course it happened to be the same week last week that they both refused. My question is when they refuse is it safe to refreeze? Throwing away a mouse does not bother me as much as a $5.00 rat.

I will refreeze a feeder once if it has not been thawed long, less than a two hours is my general rule. I have no reason behind it, its just what I do. If it is refused again it is fed to another snake as extra.

I only have one snake, and only has he ever one refused food (when he was in shed). I threw that food item away. But I guess as long as it hasn't been thawed out for too long, it would be fine to re-freeze.

Normally i give them 20 minutes with it. Both of them are fast to grab the food when they want it so by then if they are just ignoring it i know they will not eat it.

This is what I would do since you only have 2 snakes. Feed them on different days. For example, feed the male on Monday and the female on Tuesday. If the male refuses, try the female a day early. This way you only waste one feeder if they both refuse. It is okay to refreeze one time as long as the rat was not sitting warm for a long amount of time. Take warning though, a refreeze is more likely to explode when an eager BP constricts it than a fresh freeze. It wont hurt anything if it does explode, but it stinks and you will have to clean up rat guts. Be sure to mark it as a refreeze so you can discard it if they don't eat it a second time. I do not refreeze because even if someone refuses, I leave the rat in the bin with the snake overnight. Once in a while the snake will go ahead and eat it that way. Lazy bums LOL. BTW where are you buying frozen rats for $5? That is really high for a small frozen rat.

    Re: Safe to Refreeze?

Since mine havent been eating since end of November... i have been offering weanlings since i still had a bunch left instead of my small rats. Last night one ate a weanling. So I figured I would try a small rat with him on my next feeding day....but I always throw them out if they dont eat the first time.

Find a local reptile expo and buy bulk, there are almost always vendors selling all sorts of food items. you could also order online, but eating a 35$ shipping fee for two snakes is hard to do.
