    Cleaning suggestions

Hi all! Just looking for some direction or thoughts on tank cleaning. We have a large glass tank with foliage and some decorations. Just about to do our first full tank take down and wondering how or what products people use? I read to use a 5% bleach solution but not sure if that would be harmful for him or potentially lead to other issues. Thoughts?

You should be fine with the bleach solution. Just be sure to wash everything with clean water to remove any remaining bleach residue after cleaning with the bleach.

Is there a cleaning solution that's safe for them? I'd be worried I didn't get all the bleach off lol I'm such a paranoid freak

Just clean it until it doesn't smell like bleach and then clean it a couple more times.

If your nervous about using bleach you can also just use soap and water, that's all I use

I use F10 SC that I picked up at a show. Reptile basics used to carry it but now it appears they promote another product I have read about.

I usually just use strait hot water from the tap and sanitize with bleach every so often. But our hot water also comes out at 140°+, so that helps.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

You should be paranoid. Bleach is some nasty stuff. Check out reptilebasics.com they have several good, safe disinfectants. I currently use chlorhexadine but I want to give the F 10 Sc a shot when I need to re up.

Keep in mind that cleaning and disinfecting are two different processes. I clean my tubs and cages with dawn soap and water fairly often, but the full disinfectant treatment is maybe only every 4-6 months

I clean with soap and water and sanitize with Chlorhexidine. http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.h...=chlorhexidine Just mix up a chlorhexidine solution according to directions, put it in a spray bottle and spray the cage down covering everything. Let sit for a few minutes before wiping off. Chlorhexidine is very safe, some people even use it as a gargle.
