Recommendations on dumerils boa cage

Just seeing what you guys recommend cage wise. I've never bought a cage before, all my snakes are in racks, but I want to get my dumerils boa a nice forever display cage where people can see her. I think animal plastics is the leader right now, but what do you all recommend?


I would like something where the door folds downward, just to make it easy fir me to get her out

A lot of people like constrictors NW cages and I've also heard that Cserpents is good (but you have to order cages specially made from him and I think he delivers to shows pre-assembled).

I could be wrong, but I don't think AP does a single drop down door.. You might have to talk to their customer service and see if they will do a custom door for you. I think boaphile is the only one that does the single drop-down door on all of their cages, but from what I've read, you don't want to order from him.

Id go boaphile or constrictors NW. AP doesnt offer a drop down down door.

I've heard mixed things both about constrictors nw and boaphile but only from a customer service standpoint. I'm leaning toward boaphile currently because the cage already comes pre assembled.

Just know that boaphile has building "cycles" and can easily take over 6 months before you receive your cage....

However, I purchased some boaphiles from someone who was getting out of snakes, they had only had these cages a few months. The ones I have are 4x2x1.5, and I LOVE them. Very light, love the single flip down door, solidly built. That being said, even though these are great enclosures I wouldn't ever order from boaphile. When I order more caging for my boas, it will be from Constrictors NW or Animal Plastics.

Try Cserpents too... He told me he does cages on a quote / custom basis and if he's going to a show near you he will deliver it pre-assembled. I asked him for a price on a 4x2x16" cage for my BCA with sliding glass doors, light, and an RHP and the quote was somewhere around $340 (can't remember exactly as it was a year ago). I will be ordering a subadult ract from him soon and will let you know how that goes. His racks shipped assembled as well (the smaller ones).

There should be no issues with customer service from Constrictors NW. Maybe some lead time for a build. Like Boaphile, it's a one man show and they get a certain amount of orders and then build.

This is a double stack. Bottom is a Barranquilla, Colombian BCI and Top is a Coastal Carpet Python.




HDPE plastic is the best IMO. It's easy to clean, nothing sticks to it and its tough!

Dumerils boa would do fine in a Boaphile as well. The height option is less important for terrestrial snakes.

I'm obviously biased, but if you check for used cages, you may find any one of these brands at a great price.

That may actually be the best bet, but then again I like brand spanking new.

Hey, it's a very simple. There are plastic tabs on the front and a lock. Nothing is going to get out. Ed has kept/bred HUGE Peruvian BCC females 11 FT and 80 pounds, and now keeps carpets and breeds them. No escapes. I added the lock option ($8) and have 2 tabs on the top. I'll see if I have a closer picture.

A bit too dark, but the tabs screw in and then you just turn them. I believe they are already on when the cage comes. Upper left and right sides of the cage have the tabs.



One thing I do like about the standard 4 foot cage is the 14" of height. I'll eventually move the royal to that cage and get a 24" high for the coastal. The BC gets 20" high and 30" deep.

If your Dums is big or going to be big he you could look at the 48" x 30" x 18". It's a few $$ VS the 48" x 24" x 14".

If you do go Pro-Line, Ed recommends a radiant heat panel. It's a real easy setup.

There are a lot of ways to do it. I like the look of the AP cages too.

It's too bad you can't see the cages in person and then decide, but when I priced mine out I was looking at size including height. Semi arboreal snakes are fun for me and I wanted perching and climbing options.

I can't imagine anything bad about an 11" high Boaphile for a Dums. The shorter cages heat really well.

Definitely leaning towards those now.
Do you think he could possibly add a knob on each side instead of one knob in the middle of the glass?
