    Ball Python Hatchling Identification.

This past year was the first year I bred ball pythons. I bred what was sold to me as a yellowbelly male with a female albino. The clutch consisted of five babies of which two appear to me to look like pastels. Three of the hatchlings that look somewhat normal, have a lot of black zigzagging pattern down the belly and into the belly scales. Some even appear to zigzag down the center of the belly. Two of the hatchings have orange looking sides and the zigzagging pattern is not present down the belly like the normal looking ones. I posted pictures in the members gallery of the father and the hatchlings. The father does have eyes that look different than other yellowbelly ball pythons that I have seen pictured. Any help in identifying the hatchlings and if the male is actually a yellowbelly or a yellowbelly with a another gene would be appreciated.

Your YB male is not YB, but pastel. Yes, it looks as if you have a couple of pastels and the rest look like normals. However, I guess if bred to an Albino female at least they would all be 100% het for albino. Cute clutch, but sorry about the misidentified YB.

Were there pictures at one point?

I agree it sounds like the YB was misidentified, that being said YB and pastel look significantly different. So pictures would quickly answer the question. The black Cris Cross on the belly sound kind of Paint/Sentinel.

What did your temps look like throughout incubation. It can have a larger affect on pattern and color than you might think, not creating morphs or anything just looking weird.

I posted pictures in the members area. I am new to the forum and it was the only place I knew to post. The temp range was 89 - 90.
