To Scott - the OP -

Congrats, but do keep in mind that thinking it's going to be easy since unless the snake has a problem its going to be hands off, is a dangerous mindset. Their tank will need cleaning, waters will need to be changed. Ensuring that the cage is kept secure at all times is mandatory and non-negotiable. Just because you wont be showing him off, it does not mean you are in the clear. Hots require a different level of respect than retics. Having worked with both, I'd say that cleaning retics and interacting with them, I check their mood and then just keep them in mind for stuff around me. Working with hots, I secured the room, wore protective gear on my hands and legs (incase they fell off the hook). Used handling tools (never touching them physically with my hand - using two hooks when needed), and used transport boxes as needed to aid in cleaning when they were moody.

So again, even on a routine day, its not about being easy - and its not about it being something for everyone. Last point of information is the scariest:

"When you work with venomous reptiles on a daily basis, it's not about if you get bit, it's about when."

PS: I'd say notify your nearest ER to ensure they have crofib on hand, but being its a native species, I'm pretty sure every hospital servicing bites in the area will have crofib or another antivenom on hand for atrox.

Sorry been away for awhile lol.

Cody I certainly understand that there are times where it had to be hands on so to speak. Neonate not taking food and having to be forcefed, tubing in order treat an injury, tubing to fix a hemipene, etc etc.

But for the day to day it will be hands off lol.

To everyone else thank you very much for the kind words and compliments. He really is a stunner at least in my eyes, and I plan to enjoy his beauty for a very long time.

As a reminder to everyone, I do fully intend on being as responsible as humanly possible with this boy and any other hots I aquire. I am in no hurry to test the efficacy of crofab, or the skill of the hospital staff to administer it properly.

We can stop every accident from happening, but I plan to take every effort possible to keep my family, friends, and myself alive for as long as we are intended to live. I shant die at the hands (or lack thereof) of a snake.

What a snake! Absolutly gorgeous animal! So many hots are wonderful to look at, I just can't justify ever getting one... I'd love an eyelash viper though!

Thanks man. He really is something to look at. I have so many retics and burms, anacondas and boas, etc, but there is something different about looking into the eyes of a hot. It's intriguing and demanding of a different type of respect...
