well, as some of you know, i'm really not one for spiders. Last night i had the most awkward dream... i was searching through Wal-Mart looking for the perfect spider to keep as a pet. The one i found looked like that pretty blue one that Smulkin has (cant remember what kind and im too lazy to look) and i started winning all these prizes for it.
So now that i've dreamed about it, i'm sort of curious about owning one... when they're little, what do they eat?? And how long would it take for them to get big?? If i ever got one, i think i would want it to be already an adult... the little ones scare me.
Can you actually hold any kind of Tarantula?? And, i thought they were poisonous... do they ever bite??
Oh boy, loads of questions!! Who's gona be the lucky one to answer me??

welcome to T's, maybe! take a look at rose hair tarantulas. they are a good starter one. they are calm and easy to care for. a 5 or 10 gal tank would be fine. try to find one about 2 inches in legspan, easier to find crickets for! babies eat pinhead crickets.
females live 10 -15 yrs. males about half that. T's are venomous and they can bite but like snakes they will warn you. rose hairs are generally calm and don't bite, kind of like ball pythons. some other good ones to with might be a pink toe or martinique tree spider (Avicularia.avicularia) most of the avics are friendly! spiders are very low maintenace pets. feed once or twice weekly, keep temps mid 70's to low 80's, humidity is moderate and complete tank cleanings maybe 5 or 6 times a year.
hope this may help
thanks

i bet you would like owning something like a rose hair. they are totally different from your average little spider you find crawling around in the basement (ick!). and they are very docile--more afraid of you than you are of them. i rarely hold mine even though she is really calm and has never bitten or flicked hairs. she moves really fast and its just hard to hang onto her and i don't want to risk her running off of my hand and falling. and another plus is that they are just about the most low maintenance pet in the universe.

Got this from Ironhead ...
well i've never been flicked at either. but i hear it can be worse than getting bitten! (if it's just a rose hair or something similar.)

so like if they did bite you would it harm you? because I am considering getting one to get over my fear. (ever since I found out that spiders can kill you im REALLY afraid of them, but I would care for it properly)they have themm at all of the petstores I go to....
