He... isn't the brightest bulb in the box.

He bites himself, bites the tongs, bites me, *finally* gets his mouse and about half the time grabs it by something completely inappropriate. This time he nearly ripped an arm off since that's what he was pulling on and constricting. He does usually find the head, though!

    Not this time!

Next time you feed him, hold on to the pinkie and shake it with the tongs and see of he will wrap the pinkie and then tey to find it. That is if he has not done it already.

Oh. I wiggle it around. I've also left him with a pinkie sans zombie dance. That time he tried to eat it from the middle. That one didn't work at all. Striking is just.. he's grabbed heads, ears, tails, legs, and various parts of torso. I don't know, man. He's just... Not good at this eating gig. He does usually get it down head first, though.

Re: Tis the day for new king snakes.

Hey how is your king doing? Question, I know a family that got a call this year and has had trouble getting it to eat mice. They were feeding it anolie's from the yard which, correct me if I am wrong, is bad to do because of the the risk of the snake catching parasites. Any tips to pass along that may help them? My Brooks is a garbage disposal so I have never had any trouble so I did not know if a cali could be picky.

Gosh, I forgot about this thread - glad I'm only a couple of days behind seeing this.

To be honest it sounds almost like they have an eastern kingsnake, which are known for getting pretty stuck on reptiles/being hard to switch over - wait no, you said cali, sorry. All I can really suggest is the common stuff. Scent the mouse with tuna/fishy catfood or rubbing a dead anole all over it, putting the snake and its meal in a cup/lid (with air holes) or paper bag in side the viv and leaving it overnight, and making sure you start out with it warm enough. Skip a meal if it's a good weight, maybe. I haven't had many feeding issues with my guy, either. He preferred to be drop fed his pinkies when he was on those, and he refused his first hopper, but otherwise he's a garbage disposal.

And I'm so behind updated pictures here, so - Have these couple.

He's up to 7-8 gram hoppers, which isn't enormous but he's definitely grown! He started out able to coil around my THUMB.

He's also crazy docile. He's less snappy than the corn. Active, but really note bitey at all. I keep expecting that to change, but no.
