    Update on Litter

Well Ziva's litter is doing amazing. They will be 2 weeks old on wednesday, but I have to give props to Ziva with this being her first litter and there being 14 babies, all 14 babies are doing really good and very healthy :-)

Ive noticed that there are 4 main colors

    Black and white
    [IMG][/IMG]

This lighter grayish color (if anyone knows what color this actually is let me know haha)
    [IMG][/IMG]

    All black
    [IMG][/IMG]

    This lighter grayish color again

Ziva is such a good mom that she doesn't even care that I play with her babies :-) While I'm taking pictures and playing with the babies she's over drinking water not caring about anything

    Re: Update on Litter

This is the first litter of rats that I have ever had to, I have done the ASFs but you couldn't play with them like how you can with these rats. I am just really happy that Ziva doesn't care that I pick up and touch the babies, it makes things so much easier.

Hmm.. The "light greyish color" could either be blue (the dilute of black) or agouti... If the hairs are banded (have darker / lighter areas on each hair) then it is agouti. If they are a solid grey, then the color is called "blue". The patterns I am not very good at, but I think if the pup is mostly solid but with white feet / belly, then it is a "berkshire". If the pup has a lot of white with a colored heat / shoulders / stripe or spots down the back it is called "hooded", although to be a good hooded pattern it should have a stripe down the back that attaches to the hood.

Goodl uck with them, they look great! I have pet rats right now and am still on the fence about breeding them to start a feeder colony.. I'm thinking I'd have a hard time feeding off the pups.
