Is this wrong
So I have 1bp, I have her setup in a sterelite tub. I believe its 41qts. Anyway I had read a thread about using heat tape for both a hot spot and a cool side. If the ambient room temp is unstable. So that's what I did. I have one piece of heat tape covering 1/3 of the bottom. I have it on a tstat and set at 89-90. The rest of the tub bottom has is covered with heat tape on a reostat. Its set at 79-81. My ambient room temp is mid 60's. Humidity is 70% right now due to shed. Although when iI moved her to a tub, at first I did have high humidity problems, low 80%'s. Resolves now though. Tonight I had her out and I noticed she had a slight whistle when she exhaled. First thought is RI. Is there any chance this could just be loose skin around her nostrils due to her shed? Is my setup ok? She eats and act normal.
There is no mucus or bubbles. I'm certain that this just started in the last day. She also came out if blue Saturday night. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Normal sounds during a shed.
A rheostat is really not good to use when you have unstable ambient temps. You should really invest in another tstat.

What morph is the snake? Cinnamon and Black Pastel have been known to have a little whistle. You need to see what the air temp gets to in the tub. While having the right surface temps is a good start, if the air above the floor is below 75 or so you are running some risk.

No morph she is a normal. as far as air temps go, I would guess there similar to the ambient room temps. I would assuem that I need to address that issue next.

Yeaaah, mid 60s is way, WAY too low for a BP. If your room temperature is that low, you need a second UTH (on a thermostat) of some sort to get it to 80s, or a space heater on a Thermostat to get the whole room's temps up there.

Some have their snakes in a closet with a small space heater to combat a cold house without heating the while room.
I keep my place cold and my cages are to big for a closet so I heat the room.

Re: Is this wrong
ok so heating the whole room really is not an option for me and neither is the closet idea. I live in a studio and the space is limited. I also have an agreement with my land lord that he will pay power as long as it stays under an agreed upon amount. I do have a tank with a screen top and a 100watt infered bulb. Would I be better off switching her back into that setup?

You need to figure out a way to regulate the temperatures, not just add more heat. Especailly as an open glass tank is going to let tons of the heat escape. That means you need to get a second UTH on a second thermostat. That's kind of the bare minimum deal here. They don't use that much power - at all.
But again: cold side 80. Warm side 90. Give or take maybe 2 degrees, but you need to get those temps up to that, NOT above that, or below that.

Re: Is this wrong
A tub setup really only works well if you have high enough ambient temps. In your situation a cage such as an animal plastics or boaphile with a RHP will do you well.
Fortunately I do t have to deal with all that stuff because I heat my whole room and don't use any supplemental heat devices. Ambient only for me.
