    New Boa Owner

Hello all My name is Tommy I having been keeping a ball python for almost a year now. The other day at work I was telling a guy I work with about her and my other reptiles. He told me his sister had a red tail boa she wanted to get rid of. He asked me If I would take it. I agreed to take it and I was doing some reading and found out that red tail boa is a more commonly used name and there are other types. I was hoping you all could help identify what type she is and any sorta general care help be great. Here is My Little Carrie.

Pretty girl! Looks to be a normal Colombian BCI to me: since she already looks to have some good size on her I would honestly recommend getting her into at least a 4' PVC cage like Animal Plastics, Boaphile, or even something homemade etc (6' recommended for females though). They hold humidity and temps so much nicer than tanks and she would have more floor space in those via height like she has in that tank (floor space needed more IMO than height for boas, though some will take advantage of height if they have a ledge or branch to hang out on). These PVC cages can be heated with radiant heat panels and/or under tank heaters and are IMO so much nicer than tanks.

    Re: New Boa Owner

Sorry BCI? The tank she is in the pic is not mine it was the one I got her from. A friend of mine owns a cabinetry and furniture store and I asked if he would be interested in building a terrarium with me. He seemed pretty stoked about the idea

BCI = Boa Constrictor Imperator, common boa
BCC = Boa Constrictor Constrictor, red-tail boa
Many people refer to BCI's as red-tails but they really can't be proven one way or another.

It's hard to tell from the pictures but you look like you have a nice normal BCI female.

I also agree on the upgrade in her housing, it will make keeping her healthy much easier.
