    Heat tape over screen?

I have a new aquarium and yes I know it's not the ideal conditions.. I have a screen top and on the current 20 Gallon that I have put aluminum foil on the screen part which has really helped humidity and heat wise.. I received a bigger tank it measures 13 inches wide by 36 inches long.. I plan on using flex tape for a under tank heating source and I was just wondering if anyone thought or has an opinion on putting the heat tape over my screen top.. Any opinions are welcome I just wonder if that would help with the heat or be a waste of time.. I realize heat rises but I thought it would be worth a try throwing the idea out..

Imo, it would be a complete waste.

Heat rises, and the snake's on the bottom of the tank. Not gonna get much use out of that.

Heat tape transfers heat via conduction. This means that it only heats objects it is in direct contact with. They can't however heat the air in the cage. Heat lamps on the other hand transfer heat via convection and/or radiation. (depending on they type of bulb) This allows them to heat the air in the cage.

On top of all of that heat rises. We cal them Under Tank Heaters for a reason.

Agree, a total waste of money. Heat would go up and out.

It's best just to seal top screen and insulate the tank to help retain heat.
