    Worried about the baby champagne

I bought my female champagne at the NARBC in Arlington on Feb 15. Since then she hasn't eaten for me. I brought her home at 73g. Hatch date is Dec 17 2013. She pooped and was 66g. I do not handle her at all, she is in a 15 quart tub. Ambient temps 75-78 room air, a little higher in the tub. Hot spot 88-90. Humidity stays low in that room, around 40% but I mist the tubs as needed and more during sheds etc. Left her alone for a full week. I've offerd f/t rat pinks every 7 days. I've left them in overnight as well as f/t mice. I've also tried a live rat pink 2 different times. She had no interest. I left it in with her for several hours. Tried once putting her and a live rat pink in a deli cup together in a dark closet. Only thing I haven't tried is a live mouse, but I worry about bites. She is so timid and seems afraid of food anyway. I'm worried. Found some urates in hey cage and she is down to 63g. Any ideas or words of wisdom?

Does she have hides? What substrate do you use?

I had a little one that just wouldnt eat so I started assist feeding her. After about 10 or so assist feeds she finally ate herself for the first time (f/t rat pinkie which is what I assist fed her with aswell). But I cant say if it was because of my persistens with the assists or because I changed her substrate to peat moss (the kind used for horses, real cheap stuff) from newspaper about a week before the succesful feeding attempt.

Assist feeding are easy when you learn it, and there are many good vids on youtube.

    Good luck!

Cantact the breeder and ask them what she was eating and how they offered it. Sometimes they can be creatures of habbit.

Re: Worried about the baby champagne

I've been corresponding with the breeder and they said she just may not be hungry, but as a baby I feel like she should be eating. I have adults that go off feed and I think nothing of it, but 63g is little. She was being fed frozen thawed but I will ask specifically how she was offered. I've been trying to have patience but I just worry about her. Thank you for the replies!

Put her in a 6qt tub. 15qt's are way too big for a hatchling. Or crumple up a lot of newspaper and place it in her tub to make it feel more safe to her.

Just wanted to update in case anyone wondered. I cluttered up this girl's tub with crumpled up packing paper and offered her a live hopper mouse after another week. She ate it and has been pounding f/t rat fuzzies since!!

Always offer a live mouse to a hatchling size ball, if it refuses live rats. The good old "common sense" approach!
