Re: Plop: The unexpected rescue... (lots of pics)

This has been a joy to read! I missed this thread when it first came up and just read the whole thing in one go while eating dinner. It's amazing what these guys can withstand and rebound from. He looks absolutely healthy now, thanks to you. You said in your first post that you were completely unprepared for a BP, but I disagree: you already had a big heart, a sense of purpose, and a whole lot of common sense. Kudos and congrats. Plop is a lucky little dude.

He seems so much happier too, always exploring and moving from hide to hide. Thank you for the comment!

hee thank you! I think he is a great pastel to have come from a pet store. I am not sure if he is a normal pastel though or a pastel morph?

I am just doing what I felt was right by him. He is my baby, and he makes me very happy.

Thank you so much for your kind comment, it means a lot that you would take the time to read about him. I have been doing my absolute best with him, and it seems to be working.

I've never heard of that morph so I Googled it, I think you could be right, but I'm not super versed in morphs either. Lol hus little head and neck pattern are adorable, and I think they are my favorite part about his matkings. Thank you for your comment!

hard to beleive it's the same snake! awesome job.

since you are having no problems with Plop's feeding response, i suggest not trying to change his diet. once he tries asf, there's a possibility that he won't want any more rats or mice.

I have been wanting to switch to ASF in general though. They are a good size for any snake i would ever get, they smell less, and they breed fairly quickly. I had a little colony of them a couple years ago, they are also a lot of fun to just watch in general. I wouldnt be switching to them right away, because i need to get established, and he would be feeding on juvies at this point, so i would need to raise them up. lol. And as long as i am breeding them for my friend's BP, who hasnt fed in quite a while, i may as well feed them to Plop, and she also has an adult corn who would happily switch over to ASF. That corn would eat the tongs if you let her.. lol!

On the subject of ASFs... i got my colony starters yesterday, and picked up extras to feed while they get established. The female bp that hasnt eaten in nine months? Offered her one and she snapped it up in less than 30 seconds. Her owner has tried live rats/mice, frozen thawed rats/mice, feeding in the cage, and out of the cage, nothing has worked. But i dropped this little asf in and it was instant. she locked on, struck and coiled within half a minute. I knew it would get her eating again.

Plop is going into shed again! He has been doing so well I am excited. He eats like a horse. Last week he ate a full grown ASF male, what a chunky boy. Lol

I've enjoyed this thread so much. Plop has done a complete 180 since you acquired him; you both got lucky to have found each other. I can't help but tear up a bit (in a good way) because I do love a good rescue story.
