    Normal vs cinnamon ball python

Okay, forgive me, but I have been looking at pictures and I cannot for the life of me tell the difference between a normal and a cinnamon. How are there appearances different?

    Re: Normal vs cinnamon

Honestly, not really. I mean, the first one is lighter than the second one, but other than that, they look the same to me. I have two normals and one looks like the first picture and the other looks like the second, but I have been told both are normals, so....

I'm no expert but from what I can tell, the black of a normal is more brown in a cinny, and the alien heads are browner too. Also the alien heads have a distinct look, like with only one spot, or a heart like shape, or the heart is sometimes broken into a frog head shape with a mouth (that's the best I can describe it).

Here is my Pewter (cinny/pastel) when I got her, you can see the difference in the alien heads:

    Re: Normal vs cinnamon

As you can see in those pictures, a Cinnamon has different colors, but what always stands out to me on Cinnamons are the alien heads. On the normal, there are 2 eyes in most alien heads, while on the Cinnamon, there is usually 1 large eye in each alien head, similar to a Mojave. Often with Cinnamons, the alien heads get "smeared" together, especially towards the tail.

    They look the same? hmmm...

Can you post pictures of your two normals? I'm better at visuals than trying to describe things, or I would have explained instead of posting pics.

Okay, I see that! I was just noticing how much darker my female normal is than my male normal. I didn't know if it's b/c he's a baby, just b/c normals have so many different variations in "darkness" or if I was simply missing something. Thank you everyone! Of course, you are simply helping my fascination and addiction grow, but that's okay too!

Well, there is a great deal of difference in normals, and yes some do look a little like a cinnamon. And some very poor examples of cinnamon can look a lot like a normal.

The best way I can describe the difference is a good quality cinnamon lives up to it's name. They are a rich cinnamon brown/red color, and you almost never see a normal that is the same color. The markings on cinnamons are usually very different to a normal. They are a different color and shape and once you see good examples of them, it's impossible to mistake them for a normal.

Normally I'd reference the Hunter's Guide to Morphs, but it's been down for a while. The best I can do is pictures of my own cinnamon and a few normals and try to point out what I mean.

    This is my cinnamon female:

Can you see how reddish brown she is? And how her markings are different?

These are a few of my normals:
This female has a lot of blushing, but her color is wrong to be a cinnamon.

This is a really light female, she doesn't have much blushing and her patterning is busy, but she still doesn't look like a cinnamon.

This girl has some of the reddish coloring, but her pattern is wrong to be a cinnamon.

Maybe it helps you a little.

http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/show...3&userid=49349 This is Phred (70g, not sure boy or girl yet). Picture is in natural lighting, but a bit blurry b/c he like to run around.

http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/show...3&userid=49349 This is Tilly (360g female). She is a bit more of the type that like to hang out, so its easier to get a picture of her.

Phred! 70g. I am curious about him because he does have some of those "heart shaped" alien heads, but not all over, but he is definitely kind of red. Don't get me wrong, I honestly believe he is a gorgeous normal (and I adore normals) but he is just a bit different. This picture is in natural lighting.

Matilda, 360g! This is my beautiful baby girl! Obviously a normal, but goodness I think she is so beautiful.

Okay, i hope you can see their pictures this time!
