Today i switched roxy from her ten gal to the old 39 gal fish tank i was using. Instead of eco earth i switched to newspaper (that almost killed me) and then i put a dog bowl in there for water. When we went to the breeders house she had like a cork board on top of her cages for covers and so i went into the garage and my dad had some left over so i decided to use it but it scared me becuase when i was cutting it it made a wood'ish smell. does anyone here use that cork board stuff and what kind of wood is it exactly ? (if you guys even know what kind of "cork board" im talkin about) im pretty sure whatever it is that its safe becuase she uses it but i just want to know.

Never heard of using corkboard for a top. Is it the whole top, or does it just cover part of the screen top? I wouldnt see anything wrong with it as long as you can make sure it doesnt contain anything harmful to your bp, doesnt break off and get ingested, and will secure to the top tightly. Newspaper isn't all that bad

i dont have a metal screen top big enough for the 39.(i could buy one but i thought this would work just as well) it wont break of or get ingested, its pretty hard, its not really like the cork board that you put up on the wall and put little tacks into, my dad usues it in the garage, it has little holes in it and you put little hooks and you can hang your tools up on it.

Chat Night Question ... Members Please Read :)

If you can secure it to the top ok, and know that it doesnt contain anything harmful to reptiles ( i dont think it does, but you might wanna make sure ) ... i say give it a try. It might be the perfect thing for ya . Definitely let us know how it turns out. I'm always interested when people find different ways of doing the same thing!

alrighty i will let you know how it turns out, i just threw away those old plastic gauges that are suposed to read the temps, my dad has this big clock in the garage and it just happens to have a temp thingie on it so i put it in the cage and it read somthin totally differnt, in a few hours im goin to wal mart to get one os those special thermometers.

im so glad i switched cages, now my baby corn got all the stuff roxy used to have in her cage like the back round the water dish the screen cover and the heat pad and light (but i doubt i will use the light)

That's pegboard not corkboard and it should be fine It will mold on you, though, with high humidity, unless you seal it or use the plastic kind.

polyurethane--a few good layers of it. and let it dry good before you start using it so the smell is gone.
