Weight question. Is he too small?

I got Loki just about a month and a half ago. He was 300 grams and about 26" long. The guy had him in a 10 gallon tank, with a hot spot of 82 and a cool side of 80.

Since then I've upgraded him to a 55 gallon tank with a proper temperature gradient. He is currently 500 grams. The guy said he was around a year old and from what I have read he's pretty thin for his age. He gets one small rat a week and eats readily. His feeding day is Thursday but by Monday he is out hunting. Should I feed him more often or just keep the current routine going?

What is the average weight of his "small" rat? These are typically defined as 50-80g. If this is the case, then you are fine with this feeding schedule. I never feed males larger than this size, even as adults.

They go between 50g and 70g.

Then you're good. BPs will eat more, but that doesn't mean they need it.

If you want him to grow faster you can feed him more if he will take them. If your not concerned about fast growth 1 small rat a week is plenty of food for him to thrive.

One more question. I've seen innumerable websites state snakes grow to fit their enclosure (so bigger enclosure longer adult snake). Is this as totally bunk as it sounds?

Yes, it's bunk, but I don't see a male BP outgrowing a 55-gallon tank either.
