Preferred substrate
Hi all,
I am curious about everybody's substrate preferences for keeping balls. I currently use aspen bedding, which is great because snakes can easily into the substrate. I think the downside is that it doesn't retain humidity very well. What are your thoughts?
Cheers, m

i use cypress, hold humidity pretty good, doesn't mold nearly as easily as aspen. Not as easy to dig in, but I have snakes that still do. Worst oftener being the albino that is always dirty looking because she digs around so much.

Re: Preferred substrate
In my rack aspen. Never ever mist, no hotspot, anything, just a waterbowl and humidity is right at 68-73%. Higher if I open the tub too fast lol.
In my big enclosures I use pine and fir shavings, and in QT it's unprinted paper towels.
I like my Dubstep to go Wop Wop Wop Wop

I use Eco-Earth. Really helps with the humidity.

Ground coconut husk. Holds humidity well and the snakes love to dig around in the soft, loose substrate. QT gets paper towels.

Re: Preferred substrate
This type of year cypress, as the ambient humidity in my house is under 10%. During the warmer months I use newspaper.

I use aspen... Easy to spot clean, holds humidity and temps well.

Re: Preferred substrate
I use a mix of pine and cedar.
JUST KIDDING! I would never ever use those...
I use coconut husk, and it's awesome. I would like to get some aspen though. Seems good.
